About York High

York High School is a happy and caring school where your child will be educated in a secure environment that values them as an individual.  From the first visits to the primary schools until long after GCSE exams, we aim for all of our students to be proud of their school.  We seek to maximise the potential and the life chances of all of our students.

Below is a video about York High School which expains our values and ethos and the views of Staff, Pupils and Governors.

After 10 years, York High School is going through a period of change and improvement.  The school is now closely linked to the South Bank Academy Trust and we are delighted to work in partnership with our fellow trust schools Millthorpe, Scarcroft and Knavesmire.  After 10 years in charge of Pastoral Care at York High School, I was delighted to be appointed as Head of School earlier this year.  I am working together with Trevor Burton, our Executive Headteacher, who has previously been Headteacher at Millthorpe School. We will improve the academic outcomes of all of our students at York High School while maintaining its inclusive and caring ethos.

We will build on our strengths such as our Pastoral System, our ground-breaking work on diversity and our commitment to provide a safe and secure environment for all.

There are so many opportunities for students at York High School such as our links with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Drama and the opportunity to study Latin and the History of Art through our links with the York Independent and State Schools Partnership.

Our school is at the heart of our community and is full of hard working, caring, confident and happy students.

I am very proud of our students, our staff and the community that we serve.

If you would like to know more about our school, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a visit.

Best wishes

Rod Sims

Head of School
