York High School 30 v Archbishop Sentamu 24
On Thursday 10th December, York High School powered into the National Stages of the Champion Schools Rugby tournament with a superb victory over a well drilled Archbishops side. After racing into an early 12 point lead the team were up against it as Archbishops battled their way back into the game. York High’s dominant attacking flair late in the game was too much for the opposition to handle and regular breaks up the middle of the park created try scoring opportunities to keep York High in the lead to the final whistle. The players were commended by the officials and staff from Archbishop Sentamu who were impressed by the excellent skill and sportsmanship on display by our boys! The team will now create history as the first group of players to make it through to the National round since the opening of York High. Year 11 Coach Chris Langley said, “I’m immensely proud of the boys, they’ve all put their bodies on the line for each other tonight and I look forward to next week’s challenge against St Marys”.
Head Teacher David Ellis was also full of praise for the team, “A fantastic result which reflects the talent, commitment and team spirit amongst the boys”.
