The Open Doors 2019 website is now open for visitor registrations allowing schools and students to visit construction sites. Sites will continue to be added daily until the end of February.
This year the Open Doors event will be held from Monday 18 – Saturday 23 March 2019. In York at the moment there are sites in Hungate in the centre of the city (no age restriction) and also Huntington (minimum age 13) , which are part of the event
Open Doors, which is led by Build UK in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and supported by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) and media partner Construction News, aims to inspire people to consider and explore a dynamic and exciting career in the construction industry.
A huge variety of sites will be opening their doors during the week to encourage the next generation and those looking for a new career, to consider construction as their career of choice. Discover how the buildings and structures in your community are constructed and find out about the diverse range of skills and professions needed on site.
The industry has a rich mix of opportunities on offer, spanning hundreds of different professions with tens of thousands of apprenticeship places available. It’s not just traditional building skills that are in demand. Every company requires a back-office support network, front-of-house sales teams and cutting-edge technical roles, offering huge flexibility. As a result, everyone, whatever they are good at, can have both a job and a career for life.
These places do get snapped up really quickly and are a great opportunity for students to visit some iconic sites. Just visit the website and book your place ……..
