York High School is a specialist sports college taking advantage of our new excellent sporting facilities.
The sports college specialism is about much more than Physical Education and talented sports players. We aim to use this specialism to develop the ethos of sport, including the values of teamwork, leadership, fair play and being part of a wider world and community. It is also about a healthy lifestyle and the importance of taking care of yourself. We apply those special values of sport across our school so pupils achieve high standards in all their subjects and develop as good citizens. We expect high standards of behaviour and appearance, and we build relationships based on trust and respect.
Sport plays a vital part of our relationship with our community. We are the host school for the Ebor Sports Development Partnership which provides many additional sporting activities and opportunities for pupils in our family of schools. These range from traditional sports and games through to climbing, mountain biking and water sports. We are also developing increasingly strong links with local sports clubs ensuring young people continue to participate in sport after they leave York High School.
We are also committed to developing leadership skills through sport and other activities. Our pupils help us with the day to day running of our school and go out into the community to work with younger pupils and other groups. We believe enhancing these qualities puts our pupils at a real advantage when they enter the employment market.
