Expressive and Performing Arts

Within the Communications faculty Expressive and Performing Arts incorporates Music and Drama across the whole school. Our aim is to make the Performing Arts accessible to all students, allowing them to be creative and expressive.

Students are able to access different art styles and genres as well as promoting their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It is our aim that every student will have participated in some way to a performance, whether this be within the classroom, as part of a production or as part of a back stage crew.

We have outstanding facilities including a brand new drama studio with a full range of lighting to aid dramatic effect.

The curriculum in years 7 - 9 develops key skills through projects that link the performing arts together. In Music students will develop their listening, performing, composing and appraising skills. In Drama students can develop their 'emotional literacy' and analytical awareness by seeing the world imaginatively through other perspectives. They will learn a variety of techniques and be able to use these to perform scripted work as well as their own improvisations.

Instrumental lessons are available through the Performing Arts Service. Pupils can learn anything from the Violin to the Electric Guitar. Extra curricular opportunities include a Drama Group and Choir as well as regular trips to the theatre and to London.
