Mathematics and ICT Faculty
Welcome to the Mathematics and ICT Faculty at York High School
Faculty Leader - Mr J Byrne
Subject Leader: Mathematics - Mr M Bradley
All pupils in Mathematics are set by ability in both key stages. Within each ability band all teachers follow a common scheme of work ensuring that pupils experience of Mathematics and ICT is similar irrespective of grouping. Pupils are assessed regularly and their progress closely monitored.
At KS4 all pupils are entered for a Mathematics GCSE. Most of the year group will also be entered for an additional GCSE in Statistics.
In ICT at KS3 pupils are taught 1 hour per week and follow a planned scheme of work that builds on previous knowledge and lays the foundations for success at KS4 where pupils have 2 hours per week of ICT and will complete a qualification which will be equivalent to at least 1 GCSE with the majority of pupils completing 2 GCSE's.
The Mathematics Faculty has recently purchased a new suite of software called Adobe CS4. Schemes of work at KS3 will now involve pupils being taught how to use software such as Flash, Dreamweaver and Photoshop among others.
In both Mathematics and ICT high expectations are set so that all pupils achieve above their potential. We aim to foster and develop the potential of every student and promote a positive attitude towards Mathematics and ICT. By encouraging an ethos of self motivation, confidence and challenge we aim to develop the key skills needed for each students future.
