Technology Faculty
Welcome to the Technology Faculty at York HIgh School
Faculty Leader - Mr D Harrison
Subject Leaders: Art - Mrs C James
Food and Textiles - Miss S Lloyd
In our high-achieving faculty, we aim to develop a range of traditional and modern skills and abilities and to combine creativity with the ability to think and to develop realistic designs into quality products.
A whole range of techniques are encouraged in Art, from simple drawing and sketching to 3D type work.
The Food skills developed include all the familiar traditional methods of cooking and manufacture with a clear focus on health, hygiene and safety. A similar approach is adopted in the workshops and in the textiles area where old fashioned hand crafts are complemented by the use of modern and sophisticated computer controlled equipment, as used in industry. Mass production has become a fact of life and it is important we inform and enable students to work using modern industrial techniques.
We aim to nurture the creativity, thinking skills and the ability to work independently with all our young people throughout the faculty and to provide them with the practical abilities enabling them to transform their ideas into reality. We believe these attributes help prepare them for life in the modern world and equip them with abilities highly regarded by employers.
The range of courses in our faculty are continually being improved with more opportunities to come in the areas of Art and Design, and with the continuing development of the Engineering Diploma. We will continue to look for opportunities to engage our young people in modern practises and vocational avenues without losing the basic skills their parents valued so highly.
