KS3 Overview

The Physical Education curriculum seeks to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. We motivate young people through a well-developed programme of sporting activities including traditional and non-traditional sporting activities. 


Key Skills: As well as developing physical skills, PE is use to teach life skills such as, respect of self and others, team building skills, and critical and creative thinking


KS3 Topics: Students have access to a range of sports including; Football, Rugby, Basketball, Netball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Fitness, Badminton, Climbing, Athletics, Cricket, Rounders, orienteering.


KS4 Overview

In addition to core PE, we offer Cambridge National qualifications in Sport Studies and Sport Science.

The Cambridge Nationals in Sport Science offer learners the opportunity to study key areas of sport science including anatomy and physiology linked to fitness, health, injury and performance; the science of training and application of training principles, and psychology in sport and sports performance.

The Cambridge Nationals in Sport Studies take a more sector-based focus, whilst also encompassing some core sport/physical education themes. Learners have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge about different types of sport and physical activity, skills development and sports leadership to their own practical performance. They will learn about contemporary issues in sport such as funding, participation, ethics and role models, and sport and the media. Learners will develop an appreciation of the importance of sport locally and nationally, different ways of being involved in sport and of how this shapes the sports industry. 

For both courses learners will study 4 units of equal weighting.  1 unit is externally assessed through the completion of an exam and the 3 remain units assessed internally through the completion of assessment tasks.
