KS3 Overview

KS3 is designed to build pupils skills when working with Food. In year 7 pupils will be given a basic introduction to working with food, looking at Methods of heat transference and use of the cooker. They will complete a series of practical tasks focused on developing skills, such as weighing and measuring, and knife skills. As pupils progress in to yr. 8 and 9 they will develop and explore the Eat well guide in more detail through a range of savoury dishes. There will be a variety of practical learning experiences which help pupils understand the theory behind the functions of food.

KS4 Overview

Food Preparation and Nutrition

Over the course of 2 years pupils will study a variety of areas covered in the AQA Food Preparation and Nutrition Specification. Much of the learning will be realised through practical work whether this is investigation of ingredients/processes or skill based food activities. Students will draw on their theoretical and practical understanding to complete the NEA and Written Exam in Year 11.

The breakdown of the course is:

NEA 1 (Food Investigation): 15%

NEA 2 (Food Preparation Assessment): 35%

Exam (Written exam paper): 50%
