YHS Summer School - Enquiring Minds
York High School is absolutely delighted to invite your child to spend one week at their new secondary school, participating in a range of enrichment activities and educational trips.
Whilst we have been unable to welcome our new Year 7 pupils for a typical transition day before the school holidays due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are extremely excited to offer a Summer School for one week at York High School. This is in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and is intended to support attending pupils to make up for some of their missed education (Dept. of Education, 2021).
Underpinned by our three curriculum aims of Resilience, Aspiration and Success, we hope pupils will take away the following from our week together:
Resilience - Pupils will feel confident and determined about the step up to secondary school
Aspiration - Pupils will demonstrate an enquiring mind and love of learning across a range of subjects
Success - Pupils will develop key academic skills that are crucial for secondary school success
The summer school will run from Monday 9th August to Friday 13th August between 8.45am - 3.00pm. We are also looking to offer a breakfast club provision which would include an earlier drop off time of 8.15am.
How might this benefit my child?
Pupils who attend the YHS Summer School will be able to:
- experience what their new school will be like
- familiarise themselves with where things are and meet some of their new teachers
- spend time socialising with their friends, and hopefully make some new ones along the way!
- try new experiences - including but not limited to: bake offs, sports, treasure hunts, creative writing workshops and a trip to the seaside (featuring an ice cream of course!)
- build on their learning, feeling better prepared for learning in Year 7
