Principal’s Weekly Post – Week 5

As another fantastic week concludes at York High School and we are well into the second half of this half term, I feel it is now an ideal time to request parent feedback. This vital feedback will help us to further improve the experience of both our students and parents, so please may I ask our parent community to complete the short questionnaire HERE. I would also like to take the opportunity to invite parents to join me for a coffee morning on Thursday 24 October at 9.00am-10.00am. During this coffee morning I would like to share my vision for York High School and receive essential parent feedback about your experience of York High School to date. York Cares

A huge thank you to York Cares, in partnership with Aviva, who have made a generous donation of cereal bars to school this week. Holly from York Cares delivered 1000 cereal and snack bars to school which should keep us going for a few weeks! 

We’re very grateful for this support to our students and their families.

Excellence Every Day

On Wednesday, we launched an exciting new award – the Excellence Every Day award – awarded to those pupils who have demonstrated excellence in one of our three school values, Resilience, Aspiration or Success.

Our first Excellence Every Day award winners were Micah, Aaron, Isaac, Ruby and Lola who met with Mr Kumar in the LRC on Wednesday lunchtime and chose from a selection of rewards.

We are all so proud of the amazing work you have done in lessons this week, well done!

York Kidical Mass Ride

The York Kidical Mass Ride takes place on Sunday 6 October as part of York Environment Week.

York Guildhall Orchestra – 200 free tickets

York Music Hub and York Guildhall Orchestra (YGO) are delighted to be working in partnership to provide 200 free tickets for school-aged children/young people and accompanying adults, to YGO’s upcoming concert, A John Barry Celebration, at York Barbican on 6 October at 3pm.

The free ticket allocation per family works as follows:

• 1 child ticket + 1 accompanying adult ticket
• 2 or more child tickets + up to 2 accompanying adult tickets

Instrumental/vocal lessons

We are absolutely delighted with the number of students who are opting to take instrumental/vocal lessons in school. Thank you to parents for supporting your children with this. For those not accessing a bursary for free school meals, pupil premium or looked after children, ParentPay will be set up before half term for you to make payments.

Opportunities Event 2024

This event is for young people in Year 9 and above with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities in York, Leeds and North Yorkshire as well as parents/carers to get inspired and explore their post-16 options in employment or education.

It takes place on Wednesday 16 October 2024, 3.30-6.30pm at Askham Bryan College.
