Another truly fantastic week at York High School. Our students paid tribute on Armistice Day by reflecting and sharing why it is so important that we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and why we should never forget.
It has also been a very important week for our Year 11 students who are putting in the final preparation and studies towards the mock exams that start next week. I wish them the very best of luck and I am sure that their hard work will truly pay off.
Have a great weekend!

Festive Showcase – save the date!
On Monday, as part of our Remembrance Day commemorations, students visited the War Memorial at the Acomb Green to lay a wreath to remember those who have died in conflicts. Students considered why we remember, and why memorials were built in the aftermath of the First World War. This was made more poignant given Monday was 11 November, the anniversary of the Armistice to end the fighting in the First World War.
We also took the opportunity to remember Ms Toyne’s relative, who died in the Second World War and is commemorated on the same memorial.
Students were impeccably behaved and really engaged in the consideration of remembrance and commemoration. Thank you also to Miss Burns for joining us.

It was great to see so many odd socks in school on Tuesday to raise awareness during Anti-Bullying Week and to remind everyone to respect everyone’s differences.

On Monday, we started the first History Club for Year 6 pupils – students from Westfield, Woodthorpe, and Acomb Primary Schools started work on their own Horrible Histories sketch!
We started with some icebreaker activities, before looking at some Horrible Histories clips and deciding what we liked. We wrapped up this first week having made some new friends and knowing what we’re going to research next week.
Great stuff Year 6, looking forward to seeing you again next week!

Our Year 9 pupils will hear more about these options in December, closer to the time they are beginning to think more about their GCSE options.
