Principal’s Weekly Post – Week 9

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope all our families were able to enjoy a restful and refreshing extended half-term holiday and that everyone has had a lovely first week back. I want to extend a huge thank you to all our students for their incredible hard work and effort in settling back into the rhythm of school life after the break. 

As we look ahead, I’m delighted to share that our enhanced schedule of enrichment opportunities continues this half term. These activities are such a vital part of the York High experience, allowing students to explore new interests, develop talents, and build valuable skills beyond the classroom. We strongly encourage every student to take advantage of these wonderful enrichment clubs – there truly is something for everyone.

Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we will be sharing our first Parent/Carer Survey of the academic year to gather your thoughts on key aspects of the school. Please look out for this early next week, your input helps us continually improve.

Following the survey, I would like to offer an open invitation to all parents/carers to join me for an informal “Coffee with the Principal” session.

This will be a chance for us to discuss the survey results, share ideas, and chat more generally about the school in a relaxed setting. We look forward to seeing many of you there.

Round 3 of enrichment

We’re excited to be trialling a ‘drop-in’ style of enrichment for the next three weeks where students can turn up on the day to try a club.

We want to support students in trying new clubs – you’re welcome to try something for one week, two weeks, or all three weeks.

Numbers will be capped for safety where required, so we recommend students arrive at clubs as soon as possible to be registered. However, when students had previously signed up to clubs in round 2, nearly everyone got their first choice every time.

Post-16 Guide for Year 11 Parents and Carers

City of York Council have published their 2025-26 Post-16 guide to support students leaving York High School this academic year. You can access it by clicking on the picture.

York St John trip – 11 November

10VTU, 10BCA and some students within 10DWI/SDO/LSH will be visiting York St John University next Tuesday. The trip is non-uniform, and lunch is provided!

Community Cupboard

Our school is committed to helping those in need through our community cupboard, ensuring that every student and family has access to essential food/household items. Donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated, as they help us continue to support the local community.
