Principal’s Weekly Post – Week 25

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a spectacular week it has been so far! Our school hall was transformed into the streets of 1930s New York for the wonderful production of Annie.

The energy, talent, and dedication displayed during the first two shows were nothing short of inspiring, and I know tonight’s show will be just as good. It is moments like these that truly define York High School as a community, and showcase the incredible potential of our students.

A production of this magnitude doesn’t happen by accident. I want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to all of the staff involved, with a particular mention for both Mrs Lancaster and Miss Linsey. Your tireless direction and artistic vision brought this story to life. Thank you for pushing our students to reach new heights. While our lead staff steered the ship, this success belongs to the entire York High community:

To the cast and crew: From the starring roles to the stagehands and lighting technicians, your hard work in rehearsals was evident in every polished scene.

To our staff: Thank you for your flexibility and support behind the scenes, whether helping with sets or managing the logistics needed to make show week a reality.

To our parents and guardians: Thank you for filling our audience with such warmth and applause.

Events like this remind us that when we collaborate, we create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Congratulations to everyone involved and good luck for the final performance this evening. As we transition back into our regular academic rhythm, let’s carry that “Annie” optimism into our classrooms.

The cast and crew are working extremely hard during Show Week for Annie and the reviews have been brilliant! ‘Best one yet!’ and ‘Professional standard’ were some of the comments from opening night. On Wednesday morning, we also performed to 220 primary school children from Woodthorpe, Westfield and Hob Moor. It was lovely to welcome them to our school and show them what they could be involved in when they come to York High.

School play – ‘This Changes Everything’

Straight off the back of the school show, we start work on our school play, ‘This Changes Everything’, next week. We will continue to work with Pilot Theatre, and students will have access to professional theatre directors and movement coaches in order to put together this play. If students want to be involved as cast, tech crew or backstage, they must come to rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30pm. The performance date is Tuesday 7 July.

Match Report – York School Rugby League Tournament

Our Year 7 rugby team delivered a superb performance this week at the York Schools Rugby League Tournament, where ten teams competed in a highly competitive and enjoyable event.

The team showed great determination and skill throughout the tournament, finishing in an impressive second place. Victories over Manor CE Academy and All Saints RC School highlighted the squad’s attacking strength and teamwork, with their only defeat coming against a strong Fulford School side.

Every player contributed brilliantly, not only in their performances on the pitch but also in the outstanding sportsmanship they displayed throughout the evening, representing the school with pride.

A special mention goes to Matt, who produced a series of outstanding runs down the wing, showcasing excellent pace and agility. Lincoln also impressed with a solid all-round performance, combining strong tackling with powerful carries.

Man of the Tournament goes to Zach, who was a true powerhouse throughout. His ability to break through defences, score multiple tries, and make crucial tackles proved vital to the team’s success.

A fantastic effort from all involved – well done, boys!

Girls football team play Millthorpe School

Last Thursday, our girls football team played against Millthorpe and, despite a strong effort, came away with a 4-1 loss. The team showed outstanding attitude and great sportsmanship throughout the match.

• Kara put in an outstanding performance in midfield, showing 100% effort and working tirelessly to win the ball back.
• Scarlett impressed with her excellent passing, spreading the ball out wide and keeping play moving.
• Sophia showed great skill and agility on the wing, creating some exciting moments going forward.

Lady of the Match: Elizabeth – for some awesome saves and a brilliant display in goal.

A tough result, but plenty of positives and commitment all round!
