Principal’s Weekly Post – Week 20

The Principal’s Weekly Post

Week 20: 6 FEBRUARY 2026

A fantastic half term!

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the final stretch of this half term, I want to take a moment to express my thanks to our entire school community. It has been an incredibly busy and productive few weeks. Please take note of the upcoming schedule, as next week looks a little different than usual. To allow for essential staff development, the schedule for students is as follows:

  • Monday 9 – Tuesday 11 February: Normal school days
  • Wednesday 11 February: Final day of the half term for all students
  • Thursday 12 – Friday 13 February: School closed to students (Teacher Training Days)

We encourage all students to stay focused through Wednesday afternoon so we can finish the term on a high note.

As a reminder and to ensure you stay fully informed about your child’s daily life at school, we continue to ask all parents and carers to download the ClassCharts Parent App. This platform is our primary tool for sharing real-time information, including:

  • Live Timetables: See exactly where your child should be throughout the day.
  • Attendance Tracking: Monitor current attendance percentages.
  • Behaviour & Achievement: View rewards, teacher comments, and any detention notices.

If you do not already have your unique log-in code, please email d.becton@yorkhigh.elt.org.uk to request your credentials.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our staff, students, and families for contributing to another incredibly positive half term. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break.

Warmly,

Gavin Kumar
Principal

Year 10 Battlefields Parent Meeting

Parents (and students!) are warmly invited to a meeting on Monday 9 February at 6.00pm in the main hall to discuss the upcoming Battlefields trip.

We ask, where possible, that students’ passports and GHIC cards are brought to the meeting, to be stored securely in our school safe.

Year 10 and 11 students

York College has its first open evening on 2026 on 12 February from 5.00-7.00pm, for Year 11s who would like a further opportunity to speak to course tutors.

Year 10 pupils are also very welcome to attend this event – it’s never too early to start looking at post-16 options, and learning more about how your GCSEs will help you get there.

If any Year 10s or 11s would like some careers support, please contact Miss Bettney.

York College is currently advertising a number of apprenticeship vacancies which can be seen on the attached pdf. Each vacancy has a hyperlink to the Apprenticeship Service website, where you will find full job details and where you can submit your application.
