Message from the Head – Week 34

Week 34 – 16 June 2023

This week, we said farewell to our Year 11 students with their Leavers’ Assembly and today (Friday) was the final full cohort examination. Next week, we have only two exams left for those students who take Design & Technology and Food.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the Year 11’s the best for their future endeavours.

Have a great weekend

Amanda Fraser

Year 10 Mocks
Mock exams start on Tuesday next week for our Year 10 students. These exams are an opportunity for pupils to practise what it will be like when they sit their GCSEs next year. The mocks are also going to give pupils a really accurate indication of what grade they are currently achieving and what they need to focus on as they move into Year 11. We wish them lots of luck for the next two weeks.

Challenge Cups Trophy Tour
York knights, due to their recent success were awarded the challenge cups for a trophies tour. It was a privilege to receive a visit from them on Monday morning and inspiring for the YHS Rugby teams to hear about the history of the game. Thank you York Knights.

Athletics
On Tuesday afternoon we took a team of 30 athletes over to Manor School to compete in the first round of the city Athletics. It was fantastic to see such effort from all of our young people who were competing in such challenging conditions. To qualify for the semi-finals, students had to finish in first or second place in their event. Going forwards we have H. Shepard in Year 8 who finished 2nd in the Javelin. E. Hodgson in Year 7 who finished 2nd in the girls 100m and two outstanding performances – one from W. Tomlinson who comfortably won the Year 7 boys 100m in 12.8 seconds and C. homes in Year 7 who won the boys 1200m in 2:24s.

On Tuesday, as well as taking the athletes in Year 7 and Year 8 who qualified, we will take our athletes from Years 9 and 10 for their first round of competition. We have 64 athletes competing in total and we wish them all the best of luck!!
