It has been another fantastic week at York High School! This week we held our first parents’ evening of the academic year. Thank you to those parents and carers who braved the cold to come into school to discuss their young person’s progress. It was a lovely evening and fantastic to see so many families in attendance.

It has also been so lovely to celebrate our Excellence Every Day rewards. We love to hear so many individual stories of students’ success in their lessons this week. The number of awards continues to grow each week which has been wonderful to see.
Have a great weekend everyone!

On Tuesday we took 22 runners to compete in the York Schools Cross Country competition at the York Sports Village. I want to say a big well done to all of our athletes, for having the courage to show up and compete on such a bitterly cold day!

Students attending the Liverpool trip have received a letter this week asking them to submit the people they’d like to be in a room with. This will help us to split the students into two groups for the two sets of trip dates. We ask that these are returned by the end of next week (29 November).
If you have a particular request for a set of dates, or have any further questions, please let Miss Bettney know.
On Wednesday we welcomed Carr Junior’s Year 5 students for our ‘Get Set for the Holidays’ creative event! As part of the day, students made and decorated their own reindeer gingerbread biscuits, designed two baubles, and made a gift bag.
It was wonderful to see all the students get stuck into the day and become really confident in the secondary setting. It was also wonderful to see student helpers Annie, Sophie, and Eva lead aspects of the cooking session with individual students.
We can’t wait to share pictures of the incredible baubles that students made once they’ve been in our kiln, when they’ll then be sent back to the students.
Our Year 6 History Club had a great session on Monday! After a quick round of two truths and a lie, we started using Chromebooks to research our Horrible Histories Sketches.
Really looking forward to seeing our wonderful History Club students record these sketches next week. Look out for Ancient Greeks, explorers, the Victorian Workhouse, and WW2 fighting.
What a wonderful hour and we can’t wait for next week!
Miss Bettney
Year 8s did an eye dissection in last week’s Science lesson with Mrs Alexander after learning about the parts of the eye in our human body topic.

A vocational course is a training programme which focuses more on practical work, rather than traditional academic exams. The ‘vocational’ part of the name refers to the fact that this course prepares you for a vocation – a particular skill set required in different types of jobs.
