York High School 2023-24 Prospectus

A warm welcome

York High School is anchored strongly in our community and our aim is to make a real difference to the lives of the young people that we work with.

We have been through a period of rapid and sustained improvement, and in our last Ofsted Inspection in September 2022, we were delighted to receive a ‘Good’ rating.

York High School is a special place where ordinary is not enough to be successful, the school and its community pride itself on honesty and transparency. As Headteacher, I am proud to see our pupils live out our values of resilience, aspiration and success every day, in every lesson.

Our website is full of information about York High, but there’s nothing quite like a personal visit. Do come along to our Open Evening or contact us to arrange an alternative date.

Why York High?
Our approach
Extra special
At York High School, we empower our students to succeed personally and academically.

A supportive and nurturing environment

At York High, we strive to ensure the best academic success for all students and to develop them as young people that will leave us as young adults in Year 11, equipped for the many challenges of a radically changing world and workforce. Our school is truly inclusive and we work together to support learners of all abilities to fulfil their potential: those students who strive to achieve the highest academic successes at GCSE and those students who need some additional support to access the school curriculum.

The wellbeing, safety and personal development of our students is at the heart of everything that we do.

Outstanding pastoral care and support

At York High we pride ourselves on our pastoral care and throughout their time at school our students are supported academically and pastorally by our team of experienced staff. We welcome more than 100 new students into Year 7 every year, from a number of different primary schools. We invest considerable time to develop strong relationships with parents and carers, and we hope you will get to know your child’s form tutor as well as other members of our professional team.

We aim to give all students a wide range of opportunities to learn and develop, both in and outside the classroom.

Extra-curricular activities for all

York High is a fun place to learn, offering a broad and balanced curriculum and we also offer a wealth of extra-curricular activities, sporting events and trips. Whilst we take academic achievement very seriously, we also believe that it is important to provide children with a breadth of experience and we have a huge variety of activities and experiences on offer. Lunchtime or after-school clubs are a chance to make new friends or even develop a skill or talent. If you like music, drama, sport, reading or being creative… there will be an activity to suit you.
