For all those who can remember the Fast show this week at York High School has been Scorchio!
Using the Sun to great effect has been Mr Breare.
On Thursday 28th June Mr Breare took a group of Y7-9 students from his Geek Club to the NYBEP Inspirations STEM fair at the Yorkshire Air Museum. They had spent the last 2 months building solar powered boats made from recycled materials with assistance from Mr Penny. In previous years we had come runners up in the competition. This year, on a day with perfect conditions, the boat sailed by George Dales and Kaitlyn Sabo WON the green class competition in a time of 9.3 seconds. Special mention needs to go to a group of Y10 students led by Fin Fullerton who constructed the winning boat. Other teams who competed on the day comprised of Kyle Meehan, Rebecca Slater, Jake Heppell, Oscar Dewire, Chloe Ball, Niamh Richardson, Oliver Furby, Alfie Martin, Noah Goodyear, Jacob Meek and finally Patryk Lotocki who managed to sail the fastest “submarine” of the day.
Years 7 – 10 have finished their exams so no more sat in the hot hall working hard.
Year 10 have Aspire week coming up in the last week of term but before then as a result of pour work with the RSC an exciting day next Friday working on Shakespeare to prepare them for their GCSE exams next year.
England may have lost against Belgium last night but the real football news is that 9AL, 8SD and 7PC have won the inter-form football tournament. Congratulations to all of the players in the winning teams.
For the first year we are running the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and huge congratulations to Grace, Aaliyah and Chloe who completed the expedition in blistering heat.
Congratulations to the Year 8 Cricket team who recorded their highest score yet against All Saints and in particular to Alex Dowson who recorded the highest score of his career.
Stay safe in the heat and have a fabulously Summery weekend.
We cannot wait to meet the Year 6 students who are visiting York High School next Wednesday. This is their first day as York High School students. We have lots of activities and Mrs Mackay is organising a fun packed day for them.
