I hope that you are having a good week. As ever, York High School has been a hive of activity this week.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students. Their engagement and attitude towards their GCSE examinations have been nothing short of first-class. They are demonstrating maturity, focus, and a strong commitment to their studies.
This week also marks Road Safety Week which you can read more about below. I would like to place my own personal focus on ensuring our students who cycle to and from school do so safely. We will be sharing important reminders and guidance with the students on responsible cycling practices, including adhering to traffic laws and being aware of their surroundings. I encourage you to have a conversation with your child about road safety and the importance of being vigilant on their journeys.
As we approach the final week of the half term it is crucial that all students maintain excellent attendance right up to the end of term. Every day of learning is valuable, and consistent attendance ensures that students do not miss out on important information and activities. Your support in ensuring your child attends school every day next week is greatly appreciated.
I wish you a pleasant weekend and look forward to a productive final week of half term.

YorkMix and YorkMix Radio are giving under 18s the chance to make a difference in their communities with their brand new School’s Out Challenge.
They’re giving young people the chance to prove that they can make a difference, to learn new skills and prevent school holiday boredom! It’s free to take part in thanks to sponsorship from Yorkshire Profiles.
What is the challenge?
In groups of up to six people, participants are asked to put together a project that will make a difference to your community. You can work with your friends to benefit your street, your village or area of a town, it’s your call!
The only rules are that the project you pick must benefit your community and you need to have an adult supervisor to oversee your project.
For further information, please take a look at the challenge brochure or visit the YorkMix website.
There are two opportunities to visit York College in the summer holidays to find out more about the support available there whilst doing your post-16 courses:
Parents/guardians are welcome to attend too, to ask any questions. Further information can be found on the flier below or you can contact Julie Murgatroyd by emailing: wellbeing@yorkcollege.ac.uk
On Tuesday, a group of 30 Year 7s had an Employability Workshop focused on communication skills, hosted by Jess and Jack from The Place.
Students were extremely engaged and asked lots of questions. Well done!
This week’s assembly focused on Road Safety, linked to the UN’s Road Safety Week. We discussed the importance of wearing a seatbelt in the car, as well as the importance of looking before turning if riding a bike. This was followed by the importance of looking in both directions before crossing the road.
Our school is committed to helping those in need through our community cupboard, ensuring that every student and family has access to essential food/household items. Donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated, as they help us continue to support the local community.
If you or someone you know needs any support, please contact Aimee a.stewart@yorkhigh.elt.org.uk or Emma e.masterman@yorkhigh.elt.org.uk, or pop into main reception.
All requests will be handled with care and confidentiality.
That's it! The term and school year are at an end, and what a year it has been. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it.
