Dear Parents and Carers,
As we draw towards the end of another busy week, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the fantastic atmosphere and achievements within our school.
Firstly, a massive congratulations to our Year 11 students who have now officially completed their GCSE examinations. This marks the culmination of many years of hard work, dedication and perseverance. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you for your commitment and the resilience you’ve shown throughout this challenging period.
We now look forward to celebrating your time at York High School in style at your Prom on Thursday 26 June. It promises to be a memorable evening, and a well-deserved opportunity to relax and celebrate together before embarking on your next adventures.
It has also been very encouraging to see our Year 10 students embark on their mock examinations this week. They have approached these important assessments with a commendable level of focus and maturity, demonstrating their readiness to tackle the challenges ahead. Their superb start bodes well for their future success and we are confident that their efforts will pay off.
Finally, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all our students across every year group. You continue to be a true credit to York High School. Your positive attitudes, enthusiasm for learning, and willingness to support one another make our school a truly special place to be. It is genuinely a joy to work with such a dedicated and engaged group of young people, and your collective spirit makes every day a rewarding experience.
Wishing you all a wonderful and restful weekend.
Warm regards
Gavin Kumar

We have recently updated our information for parents regarding careers, and how you can support your child, on our website. Please click here to look at our new section.
It’s never too early to start thinking about careers, so there are ideas for Year 7s all the way up to Year 11s.
On Wednesday, we were delighted to welcome Jivan and Tom from Nestlé into school to run employability sessions with 45 of our Year 9 students. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to consider the skills they have already, as well as to hear the perspectives of two people working in different parts of the Nestlé corporation.
Students worked well in their groups, designing their own business idea. Well done to all involved, and thank you to Miss Donkin, Mrs Nicholas and Mr Kiernan for staffing the sessions.
We’d like to welcome Year 11 students back into school after their prom on Friday 27 June for a post-prom breakfast, between 9.20am and 10am.
Students have received a form to sign up via their student email addresses – we’d appreciate any responses by the end of Sunday 22 June please.
On Wednesday, Miss Bettney took three Year 9 students to Mason Clark Associates, an engineering firm whose York branch specialises in the conservation of historical buildings. This was a workplace experience opportunity to support students in understanding the careers which exist and to ascertain what interests them.
Students learnt about the work a structural engineer would carry out, as well as having the opportunity to test out the levelling equipment. It was a pleasure to take the students, and we thank Gez and the team at Mason Clark for the wonderful experience.
Mrs Lancaster has been incredibly impressed with the initiative and team work on show from the Year 8 students who have chosen to participate in the Aesthetica Film Project. On Friday after school we had a talk from Viridian FX who did the VFX on House of the Dragon. They gave our students industry insight and tips on how to get into the profession.
The next five sessions run on Tuesdays after school with staff from the Pauline Quirk Academy who will coach our students on how to film their script, which is already in progress!
What an unforgettable day of competition as 32 York High athletes gave it their all in the semi-finals of the York Schools Athletics competition. The standard was incredibly high, and our students rose to the occasion with grit, determination, and unwavering sportsmanship.
We couldn’t be prouder of the way our team represented York High – showing resilience in every race and finishing strong. Huge congratulations to the seven standout athletes who have earned their place in next week’s final.
