Today saw the final whole year group exam for Year 11.  Apologies to those with Music Technology and Graphics next week! It is always a strange day when the Year 11 leave as it can be very emotional for both staff and pupils.  The year 11 students have done 900+ days at York High School and a lot has changed during this time.  Mrs Evans came back from her operation for one last assembly to the students that she has worked so hard to support over the last 5 years.  The round of applause and the numerous gifts that she received showed how appreciative the students were for all her efforts in the last 5 years.  Year 11 students past and present will be delighted to know that I once again performed the “You are born at this wall ………..” routine.  Good luck to all of Year 11 and remember life is like throwing a ball against a wall.  You will get back what you deserve.

Elsewhere in the school on  Monday the Year 8 cricket team played against Manor.  We recorded our highest score of 35 runs. James Robinson from year 7 got the most runs for the team.   Alex Dowson and Harrison Woodall both bowled really well.

On Wednesday the year 7 girls took part in a RFU u13 girls rugby festival on Bridlington Beach. All the girls did really well considering most of the other teams were made up of majority year 8 students. Ella Irvine and Ruby Rollinson were stand out performers.

Students also took part in the Athletics Championships at York University yesterday and Mr Kenny tells me that all the students performed well, with special mentions for Kieran Goddard, winning the Shot Putt and for Harvey Precious finishing 2nd in the 1500 metres – both progress to the finals.

We are currently planning for next year and have this week taken a survey of 500+ students about their attitudes and thoughts on the school.  Many of you will have received an e mail with a link to a similar survey for parents.   Your views are vital to the school,  I want to create a partnership between Students, School and Parents that will drive improvement at YHS.

Finally, YHS once again took part in the York Pride parade celebrating the work we do in promoting a healthy and open atmosphere around challenging Homophobia. It was a fantastic day with over 50 students (past and present) joining staff for the parade, with many more students and their families enjoying the entertainment on the Knavesmire.

Have a great weekend – Come on England
