GCSE exams are very important but they are not the end of the journey, they are a passport to further education and careers. In today’s rapidly changing world, we try to provide all our students with the opportunities to experience different professions and to help them make the right decisions.
This week on Monday and Thursday, we have had volunteers in to conduct practice college interviews with our students. I would like to thank the staff from the following organisations: York College, NCOP, Askham Bryan College, Selby College, Nestle, Portakabin, HETA, Drax PowerStation and our own Governors for giving up their time to help our students. The staff visiting the school passed on some of the following comments about the school:
Visitors mentioned the polite and considerate responses from students in moving to one side or holding doors open. One noted this had not occurred in any other schools they had visited.
Interview staff were delighted with the respectful responses from all the students they interviewed, and were amazed that the polite nature extended to every student they talked to.
Nestle sent our youngest visitors (Alex, Curtis and Lauren) and they had all remarked that they had not been to a nicer, calmer school.
On Wednesday, we had the stock market challenge for the majority of our year 9 students. This is a recreation of trading shares in a series of fictitious companies. When I walked into the hall, I was blown away by the level of engagement. Every single student in the hall was participating in the challenge. Sharron from NYBEP felt this had been the best Stock market session she had ever run.
The winning group turned £15,000 into £1.2 million! Well done girls!
