Weekly Update 11th June 2021

Be Proud

Non uniform at York High School to celebrate York Pride and to show support for LGBT inclusivity.

We have raised over £200 for the charities supported by York Pride.

This week has seen the return of assemblies to York High School. We separate the tutor groups to reduce the contacts if there was a positive test and keep clear seating plans.

It has been fantastic to speak to the students as a group this week. I hope they feel the same.

Summer uniform was introduced this week so students do not need to wear their jumpers.

I walked round school on Wednesday morning and was so pleased to see the quality of the learning taking place. Students were discussing if there really was a Blitz spirit in the war, what watching Shakespeare in the Globe Theatre was like and how to use the past tense in French!

We are expecting a government announcement on Monday about the easing or not of restrictions. This will have an impact on, among other things, the Year 11 Prom, Flamingoland and Year 6 Transition.

We, as a school, want to make these things happen but we must also follow the guidelines given.

Let’s hope for good news on Monday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Rod Sims
