  • Year 8 Parents Evening – Wednesday 13th March

Bon Voyage to Mr Winston and the students visiting Paris this weekend, we hope that you have a great time and that all those parents who did the drop off and will do the pick-up get to catch up on your sleep!

Looking forward to seeing Year 8 parents at parents evening on Wednesday next week and we will be sharing our Charity fundraiser for OSCARs Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity “Toulouse and Beyond” with you all next week.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Rod Sims

Inside Out

Last Friday, we welcomed Stephen Burke’s Inside Out production back to YHS for our Year 10 Drop Down Day about relationships, pressures around nude photographs, and challenges to mental health.

This links with learning in our RAS lessons from the Autumn Term about challenges to relationships, as well as our current study about unhealthy coping strategies.

Students were very engaged in the workshop following the play, with many nuanced perspectives about stigma surrounding mental health and how we can tackle this.

Well done to all involved.

Miss Bettney

Year 10 Drama Workshop

On Wednesday our Year 10 Drama students had a 2-hour workshop with the movement director from ‘A Song for Ella Grey’, Ayesha.

They focused on physical theatre and explored ways in which they could incorporate this into their devised pieces.

They have another workshop on Tuesday next week.

Match Report

In maintaining the Ledgeway legacy we won’t include the score in this evenings match report. It’s worth mentioning however that the gap is much narrower than the boys!

It was lovely to see so many girls having the courage to turn out and play competitive football this afternoon.

Our U13 and U16s played Fulford in the first game of the York School girls league.

Lilly captained our U13 side and did a great job in distributing the ball on towards our forwards.

Daisy was solid in defence, preventing many strikes and Sophie made many impressive runs, enabling us to progress in attack.

Their dedication and hard work to the YCFC programme, organised by Mr Kay really showed.

Poppy did a great job in captaining our U16 side, applying her club experience to provide direction.

Emily worked like a machine, breaking down many of Fulford’s attacks and both Maisie and Lucy took advantage of the wings, moving us into attack.

A big well done to all of the girls! We look forward to our next game against Tadcaster.

Instrumental Lessons at York High School

It is never too late to start learning an instrument!

We work with York Music Hub to deliver instrumental and vocal lessons during the school day.

If your child is in receipt of FSM, PP or a LAC then Mrs Lancaster can apply for a bursary on your behalf to cover part or all of the cost of lessons.Students must attend their lessons each week for the bursaries to continue each term.

We currently have piano, flute, voice, guitar and drum lessons in school, but you can put any instrument on the form and we will try and source a teacher if sufficient students are interested.

You need to fill in the form (see the QR code on the info sheet) and log your request with York Music Hub. Mrs Lancaster then liaises with them directly.

If you would rather have a hard copy of the letter, your child can pick one up from Mrs Lancaster in the Performing Arts Department.

YHS Book Festival

Next week is the big YHS Book Festival, hosted by Miss Linsey in the LRC.

We are really excited for the author visit on Monday, and of course the return of the scholastic Book Fair.

The Book Fair will also be open during the Year 8 Parent evening, so do pop by and take a look at what is available, as all sales benefit the school, providing free books.
