Principal’s Weekly Post – Week 6

The Principal’s Weekly Post

Week 6: 11 OCTOBER 2024

A proud Principal

What another fantastic week at York High School! We opened our doors this week and welcomed families to our wonderful school for our open evening. The evening provided an opportunity to showcase the sense of warmth and community that we foster here at York High. I could not be prouder of the students who supported this evening as both guides and subject helpers. Our students represented the school in such a mature way with many families commenting on how helpful and polite they were. A massive thank you to all involved.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Gavin Kumar
Principal

Year 7 and 8 Rugby

On Thursday 3 October, our Year 7 and 8 rugby team played in their first tournament of the season.

We played four fixtures, winning three and losing one, finishing the tournament in second place. This was a brilliant effort from the boys in their first competitive fixture at York High School. Special mentions go to Henry and Logan as their power and pace proved too much for the opposition which resulted in them scoring eleven tries between them.

The results were:

  • YHS 3 – 2 Manor
  • YHS 1 – 3 Sherburn
  • YHS 5 – 1 Boroughbridge
  • YHS 4 – 2 King James

Chess Club

We have lots of very good chess players at York High School, so after a four-year break, Chess Club has returned!

Lots of enthusiastic chess players attend Chess Club run by the Maths Department on a Friday lunchtime. Pupils play pupils, pupils play against teachers and pupils teach each other how to play. Anyone interested should come along and join in!

In this game it was black to move next and black won the game with their next move. Can you spot which piece was moved to win the game?
