Week 14

Hope you have all received the reports in Years 7 to 10. We welcome, as always, any feedback on the new reports and what you think of them.  They are designed to highlight the importance we are placing on students having the right attitude to learning.

On Tuesday we hosted the South Bank Board of Trustees, who are the governors for the South Bank Academy Trust.  We were asked to put on an event that showcased talent at York High School.  We sent our debate team to compete with two of the trustees, Edwin Thomas the Chair of the Trust and our Chair of Governors Nicki Mitchell.  The motion was ‘should there be a second referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union’.

Students Oscar D and Sam H did really well and Beth D chaired the debate superbly.  Nicki contacted the school and said:

‘On behalf of the Trustees I wanted to say how impressed we were with the York High School debating team.  The challenge to the Trust showed real initiative and the team acquitted themselves really well in the debate and the chairing of it.  Please pass on our thanks to the students for taking the time to prepare for the debate and for staying so late to participate.  We hope the students enjoyed it as much as the Trustees did.’

For me, the only mystery is how they didn’t win.  I for one would have voted for them!  They are a credit to York High School and to the Trust.

Well done again to Chloe B, Jack P and Dom L, who visited the mansion house to meet The Mayor after their win at Project Dare.
