All Good Things Come to an End

This is my fifteenth year at York High School and I am writing today with a heavy heart to say that it will also be my last.

It has been an absolute delight to work with nearly 2500 different pupils and their families during this time. The students, staff and parents are what makes York High such a special place.

It has been brilliant to be a part of this school for the last 15 years and  in particular the remarkable improvement in the school during the last 5 years. Not because of me but because of the talented staff, the great pupils and your support.  We have achieved these improvements together.

You are all aware that I have had a difficult 2023 and it has made me re-evaluate my priorities.  What I know for definite is that I love this school and when I look back on my life, I will look back with joy at the 15 years I have spent at YHS.

For now, we are back to business as usual. We have lots to do from now until the end of the year.

All the best, have a great half term and see you all again on Monday 19th February.

World Cancer Day Assemblies

Assemblies this week have looked at World Cancer Day for Key Stage 3 and the importance of self-examinations at Key Stage 4.

We’ve welcomed Steffan from Oddballs to deliver our Key Stage 4 assembly; this focused on the importance of biological males checking their bodies, within the context of reducing stigma around self-examinations which built on our RAS lesson about chest self-examinations.

Students have been really attentive and focused when in assembly this week.

If your child would like to know more about this topic, or would like some support, please encourage them to speak to their form tutor, their Head of House, or Miss Burns.

Sport Update

Year 8 Netball

On Wednesday night, I took 13 Year 8 girls to Joseph Rowntree School. The girls have been working extremely hard in club so were extremely excited to have another fixture tonight against a school they’ve never played.

The first game was excellent to watch, the girls were on fire with the ball. Special mentions to Megan, Nyla and Imogen for their super speedy passing, pulling us back into the game after a tough first half. The teamwork was superb, I am so pleased with the way these girls improve with each game they play. The final result was 9-7 to Jo Ro – well done girls!

Team 1:

  • Imogen – GS
  • Nyla – GA
  • Megan  – C
  • April – WA
  • Skye – WD
  • Evie – GD
  • Mercy – GD
  • Marcia – GK

The second game is only the 2nd time these girls have played against another team! They were quite nervous due to this but represented their school amazingly well. Special mention to Sophie and Ruby for their outstanding teamwork getting the ball where it needed to be! Skye, well done on playing out of position and shooting some amazing goals! Final score was 8-1 to YHS!! Second game and second win for this team, keep up the good work!

Team 2:

  • Sophie – GS
  • Ruby – C
  • Skye -GA
  • Mercy – GD
  • Tiffany – WD
  • Layce-J – WA
  • Evie – WD
  • Peyton – GK

They did amazing and we’re ending the half term on a high!
